Misery Loves Company festival preview

We're super excited to be heading to Bristol this Saturday, 30 September, for the inaugural Misery Loves Company festival. With five stages across four venues, there's sure to be something for alt fans of all varieties.

One of Misery Loves Company's key missions is to tackle gender inequality in the industry. It's proud to be the first UK rock festival with a gender-balanced lineup, with 52% of acts playing identifying as female or non-binary.

The festival has an absolutely banging lineup featuring the likes of Lake Malice, Vexed, Witch Fever, Kite Thief, and BEX. If you're like us and heading to Misery Loves Company, here's who we suggest you check out at each of the stages.

SWX stage lineup

SWX Stage

The recently refurbished, SWX plays host to the main stage of the festival and will see some of the biggest names in the alt scene grace it’s stage.

The stage is sure to get off to a great start with RXPTRS opening the bill at 02:00 PM. Elsewhere on the bill, it is hard to miss out on The Xcerts at 06:15 PM and headliners Twin Atlantic at 09:00 PM.

But if you can only make it to see one band on the SWX stage, make sure it's Witch Fever. The Manchester-based doom punks will bring their breathtaking live set to the stage at 5:05 PM.

The Lanes stage lineup

The Lanes Stage

The lineup for the The Lanes stage at Misery Loves Company is stacked. It is so good one of our writers is planning to pretty much spend their whole day there.

We are super excited for Knife Bride at 02:20 PM, Immerse at 03:10 PM, Vexed at 06:45 PM, and Heriot at 09:00 PM.

But our must-not-miss pick for the stage is the mighty Lake Malice. The noisy south coast duo are looking to bring the party to Bristol. With news of their debut EP dropping next month their 5:50 PM set is bound to be a festival highlight.

The Lanes Acoustic stage lineup

The Lanes Acoustic Stage

The Lanes is playing host to two stages at the inaugural Misery Loves Company as well as the larger stage packed with some of the alt scene’s biggest noise makers, there is going to be a smaller acoustic stage and as expected from the rest of the festival it has a killer bill.

Bitter Kisses at 02:10 PM, Pay The Man at 02:50 PM, Our Nameless Boy at 03:40 PM, and Bronnie at 07:15 PM are all worthy of your attention.

Our pick for The Lanes Acoustic Stage is Giant Walker. The heavy prog band will be bringing a stripped-back version of their sound to the stage at 05:25 PM.

The Station stage lineup

The Station Stage

Unspurisinlgy for a stage hosted in a converted fire station the bill for the The Station Stage is burning hot.

We can not look past The Menstrual Cramps at 12:30 PM, SAFIRE at 02:00 PM, Mimi Barks at 02:50 PM, Lozeak at 04:40 PM, and InMe at 07:30 PM.

Though our highlight for the stage is gürl the anti-pop hellraisers are looking to make everything “Hexy” with their 01:15 PM set.

Rough Trade stage lineup

Rough Trade Stage

The last stage in our preview is the Rough Trade stage. As with the rest of the festival, there is an absolutely banging lineup on the Rough Trade stage.

The stage starts strong with Blacklist at 01:00 PM, BEX at 01:55 PM, and Exit Child at 02:00 PM back to back with each other. Later on the closing two acts Black Foxxes at 07:30 PM and Fearless Vampire Killers at 08:45 will put on a great show.

If there is one band not to miss on the Rough Trade lineup it is Brisol’s home town heroes Kite Thief. The candy-metal five-piece are sure to be a hit with their infectious live performance don’t miss them in their 04:40 PM slot.
