SUDS announce debut album 'The Great Overgrowth' and share new single “Paint My Body”

One of our favourite upcoming bands, indie four-piece SUDS have today shared a new single, “Paint My Body”, and announced their much anticipated debut album The Great Overgrowth.

The Great Overgrowth continues the themes first explore in the bands debut EP In The Undergrowth, “using nature as a way to describe how you're feeling”. Brimming with addictive melodies & gorgeous moments of optimism, songwriters Cater and Ames take an evocative and sometimes literary approach to lyricism, drawing inspiration from midwest emo and the 1960s Greenwich Village folk scene.

On their debut album, SUDS are "stepping into the next part of the story" explains drummer Ames.

“We've come through the undergrowth, which was the substantial and impenetrable weeds we found ourselves stuck in. The Great Overgrowth now finds us on the other side of that - a huge open landscape that at first feels scary and unpredictable but soon becomes a character in itself that wants to help you find peace and comfort in your day to day life.”

Launching the new album with a brand new single, 'Paint My Body' is an ethereal mix of laidback harmonies, completed with layers of raw, fuzzy guitars. The track carefully moves through moments of self reflection, carefully storytelling with an earworm chorus, before easing into a light-hearted misery of the refrain – 'sorry that our time has run out'.

Of 'Paint My Body', SUDS says:

“This song centres us back to the concept of the record. It's about being reluctant to go out with friends - but finding solace in being with yourself in nature. Being the first time we are introduced to The Great Overgrowth as a character.”

The Great Overgrowth is out 3 November 2023 via Big Scary Monsters and is available to stream and preorder now. SUDS is comprised of Maisie Cater (vocals/guitar), Dan Godfrey (guitar/vocals), Jack Ames (drums/vocals) and Harry Mitchell (bass/vocals).
