Gig: Balance And Composure @ Islington Assembly Hall, London

Balance and Composure by Anne Pfalzgraf.

After their four-year hiatus and the announcement of their first LP in eight years, Balance and Composure returned to the UK for the first time, playing two shows, including one at the Islington Assembly Hall in London on 1 July. They opened the show with Tummyache, an indie trio known for lyrics that delve into the darker sides of adulthood, wrapped in grungy walls of sound and ethereal vocal melodies.

Balance and Composure, known for their heartfelt lyrics, beautiful arrangements, and heavy riffs, created an energetic dynamic that swept the crowd off their feet from the start. They began their set with the raw and thundering “Void” before seamlessly moving into “Quake.” “Cross to Bear” and “Last to Know” showcased the band’s raw emotions, allowing the crowd to slow down before the band ended the set with crowd favorites “Parachutes,” “Back of Your Head,” and “Reflection.” These closing songs saw crowd surfers making their way to the stage, with the whole room singing along at the top of their lungs.

The evening was a celebration of the return of the beloved post-hardcore quintet, filled with raw emotion, soaring riffs, and soul-hitting melodies—leaving the crowd hungry for more.
