Gig: Imminence @ Electric Ballroom, Camden

Imminence by Anna Pfalzgraf

Following their latest full-length release earlier this year, Imminence brought their The Black Tour to Europe and the UK to celebrate the album release. Last stop of the UK run was a sold-out show at the Electric Ballroom in London on 10th October before the tour continued on mainland Europe. As supports they brought out upcoming progressive metallers ALLT and the alternative metal outfit Aviana, promising a night filled with heavy breakdowns, soaring guitar riffs and raw emotions.

ALLT

With the venue almost being filled to the brim, ALLT set the tone for the evening with a heavy and energetic set. Their set list was short and sweet, delivering a well-balanced mix between raw, uncompromising, guttural vocals, chunky guitars and melodic singalongs. With no time to waste and a sound that combined both industrial and atmospheric elements, they got the crowd moving right away and got them excited for what was yet to come.

Aviana

Gothenburg-based Aviana took to the stage next and immediately demanded carnage. Having entered a new era, their sound is inspired by 90s New Metal, combining a mix of guitar leads with atmospheric synths and nasty riffs. They had the crowd in their grip right away and saw a massive mosh pit open in front of the stage. Only briefly slowing down towards the end of the set, they picked up the energy again and hyped up the audience for the final band of the night.

Imminence

The anticipation peaked by the time Imminence took the stage in a theatrical manner cloaked in long black robes to the intro of ‘Com Hell Or High Water’. Being known for their atmospheric and emotionally raw sound, they vamped up the set design and light production enticing the audience to join the spectacle, even burning some incenses. The energy ebbs and flows through out the extensive setlist, seamlessly alternating between animalistic breakdowns and soul-crushingly hunting vocal melodies.

To add to the spectacle, guitarist Harald Barrett took Eddie’s violin bow towards the end of the set and played it like a classical instrument. Fan favourites such as ‘Erase’ and ‘Paralyzed’ saw huge singalongs while ‘Haven Shall Burn’ and ‘Temptation’ turned the floor into a massive mosh pit and saw a flood of crowd surfers make their way towards the stage before everyone got sent off with the epic sounding ‘The Black’, leaving the audience on a high.
