Air Drawn Dagger announce new EP 'Songs To Fight The Gods To'
Sheffield electro-emo, angst-pop collective Air Drawn Dagger have announced their new EP Songs To Fight The Gods To out 13 October via Silent Cult Records.
The EP is a collection of 5 tracks that cover topics of decrowning the patriarchy, the uncertainty of destiny, and rallying against a capitalist hellscape. The songs embrace influences from 2000s Emo, such as My Chemical Romance and Paramore, to the 808 beats and synth elements of hip-hop and EDM production.
The EP is preceded by the release of the single “You Should Have Known Better” which is a powerful anthem about feminine rage. The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Aaran Mckenzie of While She Sleeps, which sees the band's vocalist Maisie being trapped in other worlds and reclaiming spaces that are often deemed "unsafe" for women.
Vocalist Maisie says of “You Should Have Known Better”:
"This song is the perfect track to decrown the patriarchy to. At the heart of it, it's a song about feminine rage but it's truly for anyone who knows all too well that burning in the centre of your chest that makes you want to scream and cry but if you start you might never stop. For anyone spoken down to, belittled and overlooked. Get angry, let loose and scream like a banshees."
Air Drawn Dagger formed in Sheffield in 2019 and have quickly built a reputation for their energetic live shows and genre-bending sound. They have toured the UK and North America, and have been praised by critics for their "huge pop hooks, melancholic guitars, and earnest emotion."
Songs To Fight The Gods To was recorded with Neil Kennedy at The Ranch Studios and features five new tracks that cover topics of decrowning the patriarchy, the uncertainty of destiny, and rallying against a capitalist hellscape. The songs are heavily influenced by ancient mythology, and narratively, the EP follows the journey of one person's battle at a fabled mountain, to stand face to face and destroy their gods. The mountain is a metaphor for the patriarchy, and the gods are a metaphor for the systems of oppression that keep people down.
Songs To Fight The Gods To is a bold and ambitious statement from Air Drawn Dagger. It is a call to arms for anyone who has ever felt marginalized or oppressed. It is a reminder that we all have the power to fight back against the forces that seek to keep us down.
