Polaris release new single “Overflow”

Australian melodic metalcore outfit Polaris have released a new single, "Overflow," ahead of the release of their upcoming album Fatalism on 1 September via SharpTone/Resist Records.

The song features translucent melodics, smouldering guitars, and emphatic vocals, and it builds to a heavy breakdown that reflects the intensity of the lyrics. "Overflow" is a powerful and moving track that is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever experienced anxiety or panic attacks.

Drummer and lyricist Daniel Furnari says:

"This is one of the much more personal and vulnerable tracks on the record lyrically, whereas the other two singles took a wider, more outward perspective," shares drummer and lyricist Daniel Furnari. "I feel like the meaning of the song is fairly self explanatory, and I think a lot of people will naturally interpret it through the lens of their own experiences, but essentially for me it's about the struggle of fighting off a panic attack and the impact of that struggle on others."

The song was written by Polaris during their 2022 writing session in the Blue Mountains. The band had been working on a lot of heavier material at the time, but they wanted to experiment with something a little different for "Overflow."

The song started with a simple chord progression from guitarist Jake Steinhauser. Guitarist Ryan Siew then added a sliding lead over the top, which became the basis for the chorus. The lyrics were written by drummer and lyricist Daniel Furnari, and they are about the struggle of fighting off a panic attack.

The band wanted to create a song that was both heavy and melodic, and they felt that "Overflow" was a perfect balance of the two. The song builds to a powerful breakdown, but it also has a beautiful and vulnerable chorus.

The album Fatalism was produced by Will Putne and features guest appearances from Caleb Shomo of Beartooth and Winston McCall of Parkway Drive.
