Scottish alt-rockers PAWS share new single "One Nation Under Dog"
PAWS have shared their new single "One Nation Under Dog" and its accompanying video. The track is taken from the band's self-titled album, which is due out on 27 October, via Ernest Jenning Record Co/Wish Fulfillment Press.
"One Nation Under Dog" is a blisteringly angry track that tackles the current state of the world with a mix of rage and despair. The song's lyrics, written by frontman Phillip Jon Taylor, reflect his fears for the future and his sense of helplessness in the face of climate change, social media, and the ever-increasing gap between the rich and the poor.
Phillip Jon Taylor says of the song:
“One Nation Under Dog is rooted in my fears for the future and feeling helpless; climate change, how we all interact with each other socially whilst tech advancement and social expectation in that world ramps up and on. The title isn’t some big statement or anything. We just like the play on words for such a big statement. The main riff for this song sat for ages in a “paws?” marked folder for when Josh and I could get together. Some things I write feel like they can only be a PAWS tune so it’s cool when it pans out and I like the track. It definitely feels like a staple PAWS song. It could be off any of the previous records and fit in...I like that.”
The accompanying video, directed by Nicky Murray, is a visual feast that captures the song's raw energy and power. The video features the band performing the song in a variety of locations, including a burning building and a run-down factory.
In addition to "One Nation Under Dog", the self-titled album will also feature the previously released single "Disenchanted". The album is said to be a "succinct, razor-wire-encased documentary chronicling the pains of modern living". It is sure to be a challenging and thought-provoking listen, but it is also an album that is full of hope and optimism.
PAWS are also announcing a UK tour in support of the album. The tour will begin on 6th November in Milton Keynes and will end on 16th November in Plymouth.
