Sadness & Complete Disappointment release new single “BARB”

Sadness & Complete Disappointment have released the second single, "BARB," from their forthcoming self-released EP, GBH which is set to be released on 3 November.

The song is a simultaneously heavy and atmospheric track about wanting to have sex with someone who is also a terrible person. It is also about the inevitability of death, which is a recurring theme in the band's work. The song marks the ‘B’ in the EP’s name.

About the single “BARB” drummer and lead vocalist Esmee Baker says:

“Everyone thinks this song is about someone called Barb. And I am happy to let them believe that. BUT alas, it is not. My grandmother's name was Barbara though - she changed it to sound more English - yuck. BACK TO THE SONG - this one is simultaneously about wanting to fuck someone's brains out (not grandma), but also knowing they are a terrible person. And then it's also about how, no matter how we wile away our mortal hours, we are all on the slow march to the grave (like grandma)." As is becoming the band's signature move, a delicate and atmospheric overture of falsetto vocals gives way to a magnificent riff-edged finale.”

The first single from the EP, "GRIP," was released earlier this summer and is a track about the internal struggle of being a creative soul living in a capitalist society. The song has been praised by critics for its catchy riff and powerful vocals. GBH will be completed with the release of the third and final single, "HIGH," on 3 November.

Baker says of the EP as a whole:

“We are all crushed by depression pretty much day in and day out, and this EP is apparently what happens when you put four people who are really sick of living in one room together with some instruments they can just about play. Thematically, very on brand, our main thing is sadness - but with a glimmer of hope (which will inevitably at some point lead to disappointment). The first producer we approached essentially said we were too shit to tarnish his name with, but this ended up being a blessing in disguise as Will from Goliath Sound took us on and was a total dreamboat.”
