Episode 30
Sadly this episode of The Scene with me your host Thom with an ‘H’ was lost to the gods of the radio. But we had an incredible lineup of bands and artists that got our 2024 radio lineup to an amazing start.
I opened the show with our hour-one headliner Kid Bookie with "AI (Save Yourself)" in 2023 we started each show with an act that had a least one female or non-binary member. This year we will be spotlighting artists of colour in our opening track. Followed by "Nothing Clever, Just Feelings" by CLT DRP, and "Grace” by IDLES.
I then explored my indie side by playing "Ribbons" by Lloyd's House and "Mister Do You Have The Time For Sittin’” by The Bug Club.
Next, I spun "Dormant" by Exit Child and "Earthside” by Tree River.
For our first unsigned spotlight of the night “SPOOK HUGE” the Brighton-based group with the debut single "EMPTY DREAM".
After that, I turned up the noise with "Potential" by Proper., "Bic Lighter" by MAXWELLTHEBAND, and "Fall Apart” by Church Girls.
As it’s my birthday this weekend I treated myself with "notes app apologies" by cheerbleederz and "Freckle” by SUDS.
Then it was the turn for "Part Time" by Oceanator and "TLC” by Lakes.
I closed out the first hour with "Too Late To Hide” by Get Wrong one of the brilliant singles from their bands’ debut self-titled EP that rounded off my best-of-the-year EP list for 2023.
Our second hour kicked off with our hour two headliners Toodles & The Hectic Pity with “Emotionally Unclean”, followed by the monster monster monster of a track that is "Infinity Worm" by ME REX and "Palpitations” by Felicette.
I then played "Cherish" by Filth Is Eternal and "Better People” by New Pagans.
Next, I let my inner punk kid out by playing "A Touch of Hell" by Sincere Engineer, “Life I'm Living In” by Just Friends, and "It's Not Me, It's You” by CHERYM.
For the second unsigned spotlight of the night, I played “The Laughter” by Bristol-based multi-instrumentalist Lawi Anywar.
After that, I kept the bangers coming with "TREES" by BIG SPECIAL, "Midnight Visitors" by Other Half, and "TERFs Out” by Problem Patterns.
I then played "Blame" by The Maine and "Damn Damn Damn Damn” by THE HOT DAMN!
I then took things a bit leftfield as I played some of last year’s best atmospheric tracks with "The Maze" by Lucinda Chua, “The King” by Anjimile, and "Blemishes” by LIES.
Finally, I closed out the show with the beautiful Cheleas Wolfe’s brilliant new single “TUNNEL LIGHTS”.
Thanks to everyone who tuned in I'll be back next week with more great alt-scene music.
Sadly you can’t listen back to Episode 30 - from 06 Jan (Listen live on Castledown FM, Saturdays 9pm to 11pm).
