Episode 34
Last night’s episode of The Scene with me your host Thom with an H, was a jam-packed journey through the world of alt music. We had an incredible lineup of bands and artists that highlighted every corner of the scene.
I opened the show with our hour-one headliners Bristol base alt-pop powerhouse gürl with "Boys In The 90s", when we chatted with the band at MLC last year they said that their sound was like ABBA but with breakdowns and you can totally hear it on their latest single, following that was by "It's Not Me, It's You" by CHERYM, and "Things That Look Like Mistake” by Bears In Trees.
I then kept the blistering start to this week’s show going by playing "Earthside" by Tree River and "Brag” by The Home Team.
Next, I spun "London (Love To Hate)" by Indoor Pets, "i don't play with love" by Jarki Monno, and "Millionaires” by The Snuts.
Our first unsigned spotlight of the night was “Friday Is Over” the brand new single by Devizes’ Northing Rhymes With Orange.
After that, everything got a bit punk as I spun "Abortion" by The Menstrual Cramps, "Who Do We Not Save" by Problem Patterns, and "Hunger Games” by Bob Vylan.
Everything got a bit tasty with "Get Down" by Kid Kapichi and "Bloodsucker” by The Chisel.
Then it was the turn for "Never Did Come Back" by Van Houten, "Football" by Youth Lagoon, and "I Don't Hate You” by Slow Joy.
I closed out the first hour with “Bad Nature” the brilliant new single from Sasha Assad.
Our second hour kicked off with our hour two headliner “I’d Rather Have A Beer” by Manchester punks Loose Articles who announced this week that they would be dropping the debut album later in the year, followed by "Gift Horse" by IDLES and "Circles” by CIEL.
I then played "Midlife Crisis" by House Parties and "Potential” by Proper.
Next, I slowed things down by playing "Shootback" by Brown Horse, “Sadness As A Gift” by Adrianne Lenker and "Bleach” by Palace.
For the second unsigned spotlight of the night, I played “Fairy” by Swindon’s I See Orange
After that, I unleashed this week’s virtual moshpit by playing "Through The Looking Glass" by Night Thieves, "I hope I die first." by Letters Sent Home, and "Rage” by QUEEN LAYA.
I then played "Freckle" by SUDS and "Eutherians (Ultramarine)” by ME REX.
I played tracks from two bands that are going to feature at this year’s Dead Punk Special in Bristol in the form of "Emotionally Unclean" by Toodles & The Hectic Pity and "notes app apologies” by cheerbleederz.
Finally, I closed out the show with the 1:34 epic "Pressure Me” by Seattle’s finest Filth is Eternal.
Thanks to everyone who tuned in to last night’s episode of The Scene! I'll be back next week with more great alt-scene music.
