About us

Our mission: facilitators of the scene

The Scene was born from a desire to see a more vibrant independent, local community; be it music, art, food and anything else. And we recognise that we have a role to play. Rather than being passive consumers, waiting for a vibrant grassroots community, we could be facilitators of the scene we hope to be part of. We could help build it.

With everything we hope to do through The Scene, and our company SceneMusicMedia LTD, we want to foster community.

The Scene is not just a publication or a radio show—it's a gathering place for passionate people. We encourage lively discussions, collaborations and connections, aiming to build a strong and supportive network that nurtures the growth and success of everyone.

Kelly, Director

A tenacious leader and experienced brand and marketing strategist, Kelly has consciously taken the roads less travelled. Starting her career in the American journalism and arts industries, Kelly came up in the Boise music scene, writing for local newspapers and US national music publications. She's since worked across American and British education, music and arts, technology and the public sector.

Kelly brings a passion for compelling storytelling, empathy for people and a global perspective to the communities and organisations making a difference in the world. She believes in doing things differently, taking on the world with "a pinch of rock and a dose of roll.”

Thom, Director

Thom came up in the Wiltshire scene, playing bass in a local post-punk band. Starting his career in the UK arts scene, he's had music photography shared across local and national UK publications. Thom was inspired to start the radio show as a vehicle to showcase emerging music.

An experienced marketing analyst, Thom brings a keen eye for using the latest trends to elevate the interesting and weird around us. Growing up with dyspraxia, he has a passion for creating accessible spaces and supporting everyone to get involved - whether that be welcoming new musical perspectives or finding new ways to do things.

  • Felix Shinn

    REVIEWS

Felix’s passion for alternative music stems from an understanding of the feeling of being unable to fit into the mainstream, being openly transgender. Over the years, his love for writing has produced a series of non-profit anthology publications through the UK Young Writers organisation and extends into his A-level studies. Pursuing a career as a creative fiction writer, Felix hopes to use a strong sense of wordplay and imagery to expose people to exciting new musical avenues.

  • Jonathan Dadds

    GIGS

Based in deepest darkest Essex but well acquainted with the train network (and the, erm, flight network), Ive been shooting gigs since going to uni, which was a very long time ago. Equally happy in a sweaty pit or a festival main stage, so long as there’s a decent band playing.
