Gig: Soulfly @ O2 Academy Islington, London
Soulfly’s Superstition Tour 2024 made its way through Europe and the UK this summer, with one of the most anticipated stops taking place at London’s O2 Academy Islington on 3 September. Fans of the metal titans packed the venue, eager for an evening of unrelenting heaviness. With support from metallic hardcore outfit Cage Fight, the night promised a full-throttle experience from start to finish – and neither band disappointed, delivering a brutal onslaught of riffs, breakdowns, and pit-inducing energy that left the crowd exhilarated.
Cage Fight
The metal tribe group brought along the metallic hardcore outfit Cage Fight who managed to win over the audience within a couple of songs with their filthy breakdowns and guttural vocals. Even though the vocals seemed to get drowned at times by the wall of sound blasting from the stage they saw loads of headbanging and circle pits throughout their set and got the crowd properly warmed up.
Soulfly
With Soulfly taking the stage, the energy in the room immediately swept the audience off their feet. The four-piece raced through their setlist which felt like a celebration of old-school Soulfly, especially as they focused on playing more of their older songs. Everyone got involved banging their heads, raising their horns, crowd-surfing towards the stage, chanting in between songs and getting in some laps in the massive circle pit that formed in front of the stage. After a brief break, the group came back on stage, preparing the audience for an explosive send-off. They got everyone down on their knees for ‘Jumpdafuckup’ and had the crowd sing at the top of their lungs for the grand finale.
