PAWS announce new self-titled album and release video for “Disenchanted”
Scottish alternative rock outfit PAWS are set to release their highly anticipated self-titled album on 27 October, via Ernest Jenning Record Co/Wish Fulfillment Press. The band has also released a video for the lead single, "Disenchanted".
Known for their scuzzy punk rock and thought-provoking lyrics, PAWS has crafted a dynamic collection of tracks that delve into the complexities of modern living. This fifth studio album is a testament to the band's evolution, showcasing their ability to seamlessly blend raw energy with introspective depth.
PAWS’ self-titled album marks a renewed chapter for the band. After time apart, Phillip Jon Taylor and Joshua Swinney's songwriting partnership has rekindled, resulting in a collection of tracks that encapsulate both youthful passion and mature contemplation. The album captures the essence of 90s alternative rock while incorporating a range of influences, from indie punk to ambient electronics that are exemplified in lead singe “Disenchanted”.
Phillip Jon Taylor says of the song:
“That was the first song we wrote and recorded for the album. Josh was visiting and we spent all weekend chilling and catching up. Then a few hours before he had to head south again, we just decided to have a quick jam. I played bass and because I have my wee studio set up to record, we just naturally structured a song and tracked it really quickly. It was really liberating.”
The album's opener, "Helen Back," sets the tone with a barrage of textures and an intense culmination of sound. Throughout the album, PAWS navigates themes of love, disillusionment, and societal critiques. "One Nation Under DOG" delivers a blistering critique of capitalist society, while tracks like "Sound Aye No Bother" embrace the power of music to inspire hope in challenging times.
