The Guru Guru drop new single, “Make Less Babies”

Belgium's experimental alt-rock sensation, The Guru Guru, have released brand new track “Make Less Babies” via Humus Records/A Tant Rêver Du Roi Records.

The track is a glimpse into their upcoming album, Make (Less) Babies, coming 27 October. “Make Less Babies” presents itself as a modern-day guru's sermon, urging listeners to consider the impact of overpopulation. In the accompanying video, Tom Adriaenssens takes on the role of a guru, delivering satirical advice to an audience at the 'Global Disaster Avoidance Convention.'

The track's playful yet thought-provoking lyrics touch upon environmental concerns and societal responsibility, all wrapped up in The Guru Guru’s signature unconventional style. Vocalist Tom "the Bomb" Adriaenssens says of the song:

“Imagine you're suddenly a guru. You're being asked to speak in front of millions of people, televised worldwide, at a conference for saving the planet. You have 20 minutes to make the PowerPoint presentation. Make it worth our while. Don't forget about the fact that you're super crabbed about just becoming a guru and everything."

"I thought of the first version of 'Make Less Babies' when I took my dogs to the park and it was full of trash. Litter p*sses me off. Add to that my dogs eat up anything remotely food-like. All I thought of was the tempo and the lyrics. When I'm frustrated, I become sarcastic. This song could be a modern take on the 10 Commandments. A modern Guru doesn't command anything though—they share suggestions, tips. Suggestions and tips that could help people save the earth and humanity a little, but totally in the wrong order, not covering everything."

"Lots of the words are just saying "don't be a d*ck" but more friendly. Since our band is called The Guru Guru, I felt we needed more guru-like messages providing insights that are—though incomplete and sometimes debatable—helpful to the world. Even though there are many economical objections to be made to the 'make less babies' argument, don't we need a planet to build and sustain that economy on, in whichever shape?"

“Make Less Babies” follows the release of singles “Lotta Tension” and “Saint-Tropez”. As the release date for their album Make (Less) Babies approaches, The Guru Guru continues to solidify their status as one of the most exciting and genre-defying acts in the alternative music scene. Known for their boundary-pushing sound and captivating live performances, The Guru Guru brings a fusion of angular guitars, off-kilter poly-rhythms, and vocalist Tom "the Bomb" Adriaenssens' distinctive erratic vocals.
