Lazy Day shares latest single "Getting Good" from upcoming album ‘Open the Door’

Lazy Day, the indie-rock outfit fronted by London-based songwriter Tilly Scantlebury, have dropped their latest single "Getting Good" ahead of the release of their debut album Open the Door, out 8 November via Brace Yourself Records.

The track, driven by infectious guitar hooks and a hypnotic chorus, delves into the all-too-relatable theme of excelling at unhealthy habits. Speaking about the song, Scantlebury shares, “It’s about the way I sometimes become really good at behaviours that aren’t helpful, habits that stop me from doing what I need to do. Writing ‘Getting Good’ helped me refocus on the things I really, truly want to be good at.”

Accompanied by a visually striking video directed by Abi Sinclair, "Getting Good" sees Scantlebury grapple with the mundanity of day-to-day life while reflecting the album’s broader themes of domesticity. The video, shot using a ‘Snorricam’, creates an intimate yet disorienting view of Scantlebury’s surroundings as they attempt to break free from the repetitive cycle of procrastination and avoidance.

This latest single follows a string of releases that have garnered praise from major outlets like The Telegraph, Clash, and The Line of Best Fit. "Bright Yellow" was hailed as a “perfect summer anthem” by The Telegraph, while Clash lauded the track as a “riveting pop statement.”

Open the Door promises to be a pivotal release for Lazy Day, with Scantlebury describing the album as a project about possibility and self-discovery. Co-produced with Gethin Pearson (Kele Okereke, Charli XCX), the record was primarily crafted in their home studio, with Dave Newington of Boy Azooga contributing drums and guest appearances from Lazy Day’s live band members.

With a headline UK tour scheduled for February 2025 and a series of intimate in-store performances to mark the album release, Lazy Day are set to build on the momentum sparked by their acclaimed EPs Ribbons and Letters. Keep an eye out as Open the Door is set to leave its mark on the indie landscape.
