Bears in Trees drop new single “Hot Chocolate”

Croydon's very own DIY "dirtbag boyband," Bears in Trees, are back with a vengeance, dropping their fierce and urgent new single “Hot Chocolate”. This punchy track serves as the second glimpse into their forthcoming album, How to Build an Ocean: Instructions, slated for release on 26 April via I Sure Hope It Does.

“Hot Chocolate” takes listeners on a detour from the band's usual optimistic sound, delving into themes of angst and awakening. With infusions of indie, pop-rock, and folk-punk reminiscent of their influences like The Front Bottoms, the track delivers a raw and unapologetic commentary on the pressure to turn every moment into a significant memory.

Guitarist Nick Peters elaborates, revealing that the song reflects a realization that not every experience needs to be monumental, stating:

"Up to a certain point in my life, every party/night out/conversation felt like The Most Important Thing That Had Ever Happened and Will Ever Happen, Ever.

This song is about letting go of that feeling, and realising that somethings are literally just fine how they are."

Accompanying the release is an electrifying music video that perfectly captures the track's intensity.

But that's not all - Bears in Trees are hitting the road with a UK/European co-headline tour alongside New Jersey indie rockers, The Happy Fits. UK fans can catch them at various venues across the country, including Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, and London.

How to Build an Ocean: Instructions promises to be a deeply personal and introspective journey, exploring themes of purpose amidst existential uncertainty. Produced by George Perks (known for his work with Enter Shikari, The Doves, and You Me At Six), the album marks a significant milestone for Bears in Trees, being the first project they've recorded with outside consultants. This new approach has allowed the band to delve deeper into their songwriting process, resulting in a mature and marinated sound that reflects their growth and evolution.

Reflecting on their journey, guitarist Nick Peters shares:

"We started the band because we loved hanging out with our friends and wanted to make stupid music together. That's always been the reason, and it hasn't changed."

With their passionate and loyal fanbase, affectionately known as 'sandboxes', Bears in Trees have carved out a unique space in the digital age, earning millions of likes on TikTok and selling out venues like London's Electric Ballroom.

As they gear up for the release of How to Build an Ocean: Instructions, Bears in Trees invite fans to join them on a journey of self-discovery and sonic exploration. With their infectious energy and unapologetic authenticity, Bears in Trees are set to make waves in the music scene and beyond.
