Gen and the Degenerates release new single “KIDS WANNA DANCE”
Gen and the Degenerates are back, and they're bringing the noise! Their brand new single, "KIDS WANNA DANCE" is a whirlwind of punk rock energy and anthemic rebellion, straight off their debut album ANTI-FUN PROPAGANDA dropping February 23rd via Marshall Records.
This isn't just another headbanger, though. "KIDS WANNA DANCE" tackles the tough stuff: the messed-up world we live in, the struggle to find meaning, and the question of whether it's even worth having kids when things are so grim. But instead of wallowing, the band channels their frustration into a defiant middle finger to the status quo.
Talking about the new single, vocalist Genevieve Glynn-Reeves said:
“This song is about trying to reconcile the knowledge that the future of our world is very uncertain, getting up each day and trying to build a life for ourselves. Beyond that, we all want to find a way to make those lives enjoyable.
Not only is the quality of life getting lower, but our politics and economy are volatile; we have to ask ourselves questions like 'Is it even ethical to have children?' because of the state that previous generations have left the planet in.
It seems that if people want to spend all their time making stupid videos on TikTok or spend all their money frivolously, then why shouldn't they? There are no stable careers, and they won't be able to afford a house anyway. We all need to find the joy we can and each our way of dancing through the end times.”
The song's a bundle of punk energy, with its jagged guitars, driving bass, and infectious chorus that'll have you fist-pumping and shouting along.
And "KIDS WANNA DANCE" is just a taste of what's to come with ANTI-FUN PROPAGANDA. Produced by the legendary Ross Orton, the whole album is a raw, honest exploration of being young in a messed-up world. It's got everything: late-night talks, questioning everything, figuring out who you are, and finding joy even when the world's falling apart.
