Nu-goth star HARPY shares new single “Born to Destroy”

HARPY, the rising nu-goth sensation, has dropped her latest single, “Born to Destroy”. Co-written with Sam Matlock and Milkie Way from WARGASM and produced by Charlie Russell, the track is a heady mix of dark dance-pop and raw industrial elements. It’s the seventh release from HARPY, who has steadily carved a niche in the alternative music scene with her intense, unapologetic style.

“Born to Destroy” offers a glimpse into the mind of a formidable character, with HARPY herself describing it as a song about domination and power. She adds,”

“If Lana (del Rey) was Born to Die for love, I’m Born to Destroy it.”

The lyrics hint at the allure of danger and the thrill of succumbing to a powerful, almost predatory force. HARPY uses the track to explore themes of control and seduction, inviting listeners into a dark, seductive narrative.

Musically, “Born to Destroy” merges pulsating beats with layered synths and a vocal delivery that feels both commanding and haunting. The production, led by Russell, weaves heavy electronic textures with a driving rhythm, creating an atmosphere fit for a late-night vampire rave. HARPY’s vocal tone shifts effortlessly from sinister whispers to a more aggressive cadence, reflecting the track’s themes of power dynamics and seduction.

The collaboration with Matlock and Milkie Way infuses the song with an anthemic edge, capturing some of the same rebellious spirit seen in WARGASM’s work. This synergy is evident, as the track pulses with energy and a touch of industrial flair, pulling from HARPY’s influences like Nine Inch Nails and Boy Harsher.

HARPY’s growing influence on the alternative scene can be seen through her live performances. She’s currently touring Europe, supporting WARGASM on their ‘Club Shit’ tour, with dates spanning cities like Berlin, Copenhagen, and Munich. Her powerful stage presence and signature dark aesthetic are winning her fans across the continent, building on a breakout year that has seen her dominate the stage at festivals and headline shows alike.

Since her debut live on The Venom Tour in 2023, HARPY’s ascent has been rapid. Fans have taken to calling her the ‘Goth Metal Mommy,’ a testament to her commanding presence and distinctive style. She’s captivated audiences with tracks like “Slaughterhouse”, “Medicine”, and “Not My God Anymore”, combining heavy industrial sounds with entrancing techno beats and lyrics that challenge convention. With over 43.2 million views on TikTok, her digital presence echoes her impact on stage, connecting her with a global audience drawn to her provocative persona.

“Born to Destroy” is out now, marking the close of a significant year for HARPY as she looks forward to 2025. Having shared the stage with names like Cassyette and performed her US debut at LA’s iconic Bar Sinister, she’s positioned herself as a key voice in the current wave of alternative and industrial music. With a slew of live dates lined up and festival appearances in the pipeline, HARPY’s presence in the scene is only set to grow stronger.
