Get Wrong release new single “Too Late To Hide”

Synthpop duo Get Wrong, featuring members of Martha and The Spook School, have released their new single “Too Late To Hide” - the latest track to be taken from their self-titled debut EP, out 1 December via Father/Daughter (US) and Alcopop! Records (UK).

The first song that Naomi Griffin and Adam Todd worked on together, and the last they finished for their debut EP, was their new single "Too Late To Hide." The song is about getting in your head too much to the point that it ruins your night, but nothing that a little one-on-one time with a cutie can't fix.

Speaking about the track, Adam Todd of Get Wrong says:

"It went through loads of rewrites which is funny cause it's probably the shortest and most simple song on the EP. It started with a demo of the chorus bassline and chords that I sent through to Naomi, and Naomi almost immediately sent it back with the vocal line and lyrics. Then we got stuck. We spent so long swapping in and out different verse ideas."

Right up until the point the band were recording it in the studio, they still hadn't fully decided on a vocal melody or lyrics for the last couple of bars of the verse. Cue producer Peter Brewis, who advised the band to cut straight to the chorus. "So that's what we did," says Todd. "I like to think that the unusual verse length adds a bit of surprise, a wee feeling of things being rushed or not quite right in a way that works quite well thematically with the song. The song is quite simply about getting in your head too much to the point that it ruins your night, but nothing that a little one-on-one time with a cutie can't fix."

Get Wrong is a somewhat long-distance collaboration, with Griffin based in Durham, England and Todd based in Glasgow, Scotland. With a shared background in the UK indie pop/punk scene, the two friends decided to embrace their love of pop music and create songs outside their usual comfort zone of chugging guitars and squealing feedback.

The resulting output draws inspiration from '80s synth-pop alongside current pop megastars, with an approach that embraces fun, cuteness, intimacy and dream-like nostalgia.

The band's name is taken from a North-East English colloquialism for getting into trouble, and it serves as a mission statement to encourage child-like naivety while questioning the status quo.

Get Wrong's forthcoming EP was produced, recorded, and mixed by Peter Brewis and mastered by David Brewis, both of the band Field Music, at FMHQ in Sunderland.
