ALT BLK ERA stream new version of “My Drummer’s Girlfriend” featuring Wheatus
UK-based genre-defying duo ALT BLK ERA have shared an electrifying new rendition of their single “My Drummer’s Girlfriend,” featuring none other than US alt-rock icons Wheatus. The collaboration, released via Earache Records, pairs the sisters’ vibrant energy with Wheatus’ distinctive indie-rock charm.
Initially teased by the band as carrying “Teenage Dirtbag energy,” the track evolved into a full-blown partnership after both acts performed at this year’s Download Festival. Wheatus’ frontman Brendan B. Brown quickly became a fan of ALT BLK ERA’s sound, leading to this fresh interpretation.
Nyrobi, one half of the sibling duo, expressed the thrill of teaming up with Wheatus:
"Before 'My Drummer's Girlfriend' came out, we described it as having 'Teenage Dirtbag' energy. When Wheatus followed us after Download, we felt a push to find the courage to ask them to collaborate. Fortunately, they loved it. Working with them feels out of this world!"
For Brown, the collaboration was equally rewarding.
"I was first just a fan of ALT BLK ERA. The idea of telling the story from the drummer's girlfriend’s perspective was intriguing. I focused on getting the guitar lines just right—'My Drummer’s Girlfriend' is a heavy banger, and I didn’t want to mess it up!"
This version amplifies the track’s narrative depth, shifting focus between perspectives and layering ALT BLK ERA’s innovative vocals with Wheatus’ melodic grit. The band’s trademark blend of fiery vocals and dynamic storytelling shines through, with a polished production that retains the track’s raw intensity.
The release coincides with the announcement of ALT BLK ERA’s debut album, Rave Immortal, out 24 January 2025 via Earache Records. Pre-orders are now live. The album dives deep into themes of resilience, identity, and rebellion, reflecting the sisters’ journey through personal and societal challenges. From quiet introspection to unbridled defiance, the record showcases their ability to translate emotion into sound, with highlights such as “Come On Outside” and the title track.
In support of the album, ALT BLK ERA will embark on an in-store tour across the UK from 24-30 January, with stops at iconic venues like Rough Trade in Bristol and Resident in Brighton. Limited tickets are available for these intimate performances, which promise to bring the duo’s high-energy stage presence to life.
