Destroy Boys announce new album ‘Funeral Soundtrack #4’

Sacramento punks Destroy Boys are set to release their highly anticipated fourth album, Funeral Soundtrack #4, on 9 August via Hopeless Records.

This new album features collaborations with Mannequin Pussy and Scowl and was produced by Carlos de la Garza, known for his work with Paramore, The Linda Lindas, and Best Coast. Fans can now experience the album’s first official single, "Boyfeel," a track that vocalist Alexia Roditis began writing at 17. "Boyfeel" explores Roditis’s evolving relationship with gender nonconformity and is accompanied by a music video directed by Tay Allard, which delves into similar themes.

Funeral Soundtrack #4 captures the band at their most evolved, showcasing a sound that has grown significantly from their scrappy, teenage beginnings while maintaining their core identity. Recorded throughout 2023, de la Garza pushed the band into new sonic territories, integrating influences from salsa and bossa nova alongside their punk rock roots.

The album also highlights gothier inspirations such as The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The title, Funeral Soundtrack #4, signifies the death and rebirth of the band members and their music over the years. "Looking back, our first three albums marked the deaths of things," says guitarist Violet Mayugba. "They were soundtracks to our funerals, whether they were for our ages or our mental states. We’ve gone through a lot of changes as a band and as people."

The album includes the previously released tracks "Plucked," "Shadow (I’m Breaking Down)," and "Beg For The Torture," alongside new songs that continue to push the band’s creative boundaries. Here's the complete track listing for Funeral Soundtrack #4:

"The first one was our high school album," Mayugba explains. "On the second record, we went to college and were saying goodbye to our childhood. On the third one, we’d just gone through COVID and, speaking for myself, I lost my entire sense of self and gained a new one."

Destroy Boys have a busy summer ahead with a series of shows and European festival appearances, including Reading & Leeds festivals in the UK. They will also headline shows in Nottingham and perform alongside The Offspring in Luxembourg.
