Common Sage announce new album ‘Closer To;’

Brooklyn's post-hardcore outfit Common Sage are preparing to unleash their latest offering, Closer To;, due to hit the shelves on 22 November via Equal Vision Records. The album, produced by Brett Romnes (Oso Oso, Anxious), offers a deeply introspective and unrelenting sound, a continuation of the band’s dedication to early 2000s emo with a modern post-hardcore twist.

The album’s lead single, "Vehicles", delivers an intense and thought-provoking message. Frontman Julian Rosen dives into unsettling territory, reflecting on the existential musings of the Heaven’s Gate cult. He describes how they referred to their bodies as mere "vehicles", representing the idea that life is transient and ultimately meaningless. The track’s raw energy mirrors these bleak reflections, with dissonant riffs and crashing rhythms that echo the chaotic emotions behind the lyrics.

The video for "Vehicles", directed by Rich Weinberger (Gatherers), brings this concept to life in stark, striking visuals. Filmed with a grim aesthetic, it complements the band’s exploration of dissatisfaction and nihilism. In many ways, the track feels like a throwback to the slashing, dramatic screamo of the Y2K era, while offering a fresh take for a new generation of listeners.

As for Closer To;, the album promises a dynamic blend of sonic elements, pulling inspiration from Long Island emo greats and blending it with more abrasive post-hardcore edges. Tracks like "Apparitions" and "Until I’m Gone" veer between atmospheric melodies and ferocious breakdowns, while "Shiver" slows things down with a brooding intensity. There’s a duality here that feels both chaotic and calculated, pushing Common Sage beyond genre conventions.

Their upcoming tour in support of Hail the Sun, Sparta, and Reggie & The Full Effect sees Common Sage hitting stages across the U.S. this autumn and winter. It’s a run that promises to showcase their evolving sound, with the kind of emotional depth that has become a hallmark of their live performances.

With Closer To;, Common Sage continue to carve out their place in a genre known for its passionate, devoted fan base. If "Vehicles" is any indication of what’s to come, they’re set to cement themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
