Emerging from a curtain of guitar feedback, Goings have released their new track "I'm Talking," an unstoppable synthy-emo experience. The song features glitchy synthesizer chords that set the stage for the rest of the band to shred.
"I'm Talking" serves as an anthem for anyone losing faith in themselves, with vocal harmonies emphasizing lyrics like, "You would take a picture of the wrong thing and leave it at that, knowing what you missed."
The music video, which you can watch, depicts Goings playing to a party that doesn't pay attention to them, reflecting the frustrated energy that inspired the song. The band only slows down to allow each member to join in a repeating vocal: "Thinking of me thinking of you, thinking of me thinking of you..." Concluding with a bombastic guitar solo and a return to the song’s lyrical refrain, "I'm Talking" ends where it begins, suggesting the quiet futility of the song’s meaning.
Aidan synth and vocals in the band said about the single:
“I’m Talking” was one of the first songs we wrote with our newest members, which I think really shaped how it was written. Founding members wanted to develop new sounds for the band. Keith pushes the bass to the front with frantic bass lines and flourishes, Chris is at his most explosive on the drums and I lay the foundation for the song with a fresh sounding synth patch. New members Cam and Alexi lay down some of the wildest guitar parts in our catalogue, and all 5 members chime in on vocals in the bridge. This song represents our sense of unity as Goings, which I think is why it has remained one of our favorites to play.”
Formed in Philadelphia, Goings faced a turning point in 2020. With the release of their debut album It's For You and a global pandemic shutting down live shows, the band, then consisting of Chris Kearney, Keith Rogers, and Aidan Rogers, had to adapt. With time on their hands, they regrouped, adding guitarists Alexi Peters and Cam Chung in 2021. This new lineup sparked a creative surge, resulting in their upcoming sophomore LP (details to be announced soon!).
