Beloved London indie-punk duo and two of the nicest people out there, Happy Accidents (guitarist/vocalist Rich Mandell and drummer/vocalist Phoebe Cross), have announced their much-anticipated return with their forthcoming album Edit Undo, set for release on 27 September, via Alcopop! Records. In celebration of this announcement, the band is sharing their new single "Infinite Possibilities."
Speaking about the new single, Rich Mandell comments:
"This song is about how our brains play tricks on us, and how easy it is to feel boxed in despite an open road ahead. There are infinite ways to interpret the events that happen to us, and maybe only through endless trial and error will we really figure out what's going on up there."
In a unique move, Happy Accidents will be inviting their fans into a secret world built around the new album. This hidden artist profile on streaming platforms will be accessible only to those who actively support the band by pre-ordering the record or searching for the hidden page. Fans will be rewarded with extra singles, alternate versions, and story elements along an alternate timeline, culminating in the entire album being available to stream on the secret page a month in advance.
Talking about the unique release label boss Jack Clothier said:
"This isn't a backlash against streaming or anything like that it's an experiment by two established DIY artists who have already toured the world, played every festival going, signed to indies, signed to major global management, and tried playing the game vs. not playing the game, to actually see if they can switch things up and continue to sustainably make their art for years to come."
Happy Accidents adds: "It’s partly about looking at ways to challenge the 'flash in the pan' nature of releasing music nowadays. It feels like with digital distribution, many small-scale releases are here today gone tomorrow, and everyone immediately moves on. This is sort of an experiment in digital liner notes, trying to do something interesting within the streaming space without losing the convenience of how we all listen to music in 2024.”
Sinking their solid DIY roots on their 2016 debut album You Might Be Right, Edit Undo will be the band’s fifth album and their latest for Alcopop! Records since their 2018 second album Everything But The Here And Now. They self-released Sprawling (2020) and cgwarmth (2022), both produced by Rich Mandell.
On their new creative process, Mandell said:
“I guess the difference this time is we recorded it over a longer period of time, going to the studio once a month and just seeing what came out. We've sort of integrated it into our normal lives which has been way more fun.”
