ME REX share new single "Infinity Worm" from forthcoming debut album

London and Brighton-based trio ME REX have released their latest single "Infinity Worm". The track is lifted from their upcoming debut album Giant Elk, set for release on 20 October via Big Scary Monsters.

"Infinity Worm" is the third single from Giant Elk, following "Eutherians (Ultramarine)" and "Giant Giant Giant". It is a showcase of the band's rich storytelling, with vivid imagery of otherworldly creatures and themes of humanity and inherent value.

Speaking on the new single, ME REX's Myles McCabe said:

“Inspired by It Came from Outer Space and alien encounter movies like Galaxy Quest, District 9 and ET. 'Infinity Worm' sees monstrous angels descending, leaving a fragmented sky behind, creatures that are torn to pieces regenerating anew and trying to find a place in the world. It's a song about affirming humanity and inherent value.”

Giant Elk is the follow-up to ME REX's 2022 EPs Plesiosaur and Pterodactyl and their acclaimed 2021 52-track project Megabear. The album was recorded over the course of 2022 at four different studios and is the first release the band have recorded together since 2020.

Giant Elk explores what it means to be human in various different forms following a story of "continual fracturing and regeneration, illustrating the process of growing through loss and grief, set against the backdrop of societal and climate collapse."

The band have carved a distinct niche for themselves with their blend of introspective lyricism, surging, gargantuan hooks and soundscapes.

ME REX defies genre boundaries and typical song structures while touching on themes of friendship, forgiveness, loss and joy wrapped in sweeping metaphors of alchemy and mythology. Across the band’s catalogue, they weave in influences taken from art and lore, from the idea of "comets as harbingers of change and gateways to other realms" to ancient foundational narratives and their real-world reflections, managing to shape them into something closer to modern humanity.
