Chubby and the Gang have announced their new album And Then There Was..., set for release on 4 October through Flatspot Records.
The record features 16 songs written and performed by Charlie Manning, produced by Jonah Falco, and recorded and mixed by James Atckinson. The album blends hardcore punk with elements of ‘70s rock n roll and doo-wop, creating a mix of control and chaos, love and loneliness, rage and vulnerability.
The band has also released a dynamic new single and video, “To Be Young.” This two-minute track, featuring lively guitars and drums, is complemented by a guest appearance from singer Kate Clover. The video for the song was directed by Nick Suchak and produced by Dan Matthews.
On the lyrics of “To Be Young,” Manning shares:
“When you’re 17 you have no idea about life, you just exist. This song is romanticising that uncertainty. You make so many mistakes and you have no idea that you're doing them.”
And Then There Was... is Chubby and the Gang’s third full-length album, following The Mutt’s Nuts (2021) and Speed Kills (2020). Throughout the record, Manning showcases his knack for melody and authentic self-expression. The songs are poised to be hits in live settings but are equally suited to the atmosphere of a local pub. With this release, Chubby and the Gang continue to be an authentic voice in punk and beyond, with Manning’s goal being to “Play good shows. Have good times.”
