Owen announces new album ‘The Falls of Sioux’ and shares single "Beaucoup"

Owen, the solo project of the acclaimed songwriter Mike Kinsella, is set to release a new album titled The Falls of Sioux on 26 April via Big Scary Monsters.

Co-produced by Sean Carey (Bon Iver) and Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Low, Waxahatchee), the album marks another milestone in Kinsella's prolific career, which includes contributions to bands like American Football, Cap’n Jazz, and LIES.

Accompanying the album announcement is the release of the lead single, “Beaucoup,” along with its music video directed by Weird Life Films. The track showcases Kinsella's evolving sound palette, influenced by his recent work with LIES. Combining acoustic guitar with shoegaze textures and electronic elements, “Beaucoup” offers a glimpse into the sonic exploration present throughout the album.

Reflecting on the creation of the music video, Kinsella comments:

“I’m not sure if “Beaucoup” is a lusty Love Song or a lovely Lust Song. Everyone at Weird Life did a great job capturing the seedy side of it, as well as the shimmery / flirty side, visually hitting (and bending) the same note between the notes for the music video.”

The Falls of Sioux continues Owen's trajectory of musical evolution, blending intricate production with poignant songwriting. Themes of personal growth and resilience permeate the album, offering a glimpse into Kinsella's introspective journey.

The tracklist for The Falls of Sioux is as follows:

  1. A Reckoning
