Jar of Blind Flies shares single “Hell Is an Ocean” from ‘Small Pond Presents: Emerging Vol. 4’

Brighton’s alt-rock trio Jar of Blind Flies has dropped their new single “Hell Is an Ocean,” offering listeners their latest glimpse into Small Pond Presents: Emerging Vol. 4, which is set to release on 15 November. The track arrives as the latest in a series of singles from Small Pond’s annual artist development compilation, highlighting some of the freshest talent from Brighton and beyond.

“Hell Is an Ocean” digs into themes of isolation and mental health, wrapped in the band’s unmistakable style. Known for their hard-hitting guitar tones and memorable choruses, Jar of Blind Flies has crafted a track that channels raw emotion without overstating it. The trio’s connection to the south coast’s alt-rock scene runs deep, with their recent performances capturing the attention of audiences eager for their bold sound.

Small Pond’s Emerging project has grown into a sought-after opportunity for new artists, and Vol. 4 is no exception. The project offers sixteen handpicked artists aged 16-25 a chance to record, rehearse, and release music with full studio support, backed by Arts Council England. As a long-standing initiative, Emerging has previously propelled artists like CLT DRP and Lambrini Girls to broader recognition, creating pathways for independent musicians to hone their craft with professional guidance.

Reflecting on the compilation’s unique approach, a representative from Small Pond noted:

“We’re thrilled to have artists like Jar of Blind Flies contributing to Emerging Vol. 4. Each artist brings something unique to the project, and this year’s lineup promises a mix of high-energy performances and solid musicianship.”

For fans, Emerging Vol. 4 provides a dynamic snapshot of Brighton’s music landscape. Alongside Jar of Blind Flies, listeners can look forward to tracks from artists like Could Be Ghosts and Epsom Salts, who bring their own styles to the compilation. The album will be available digitally and as a limited vinyl release, appealing to collectors and casual listeners alike.

To celebrate the release, Small Pond is hosting a workshop and launch event on 16 November at the Green Door Store, Brighton, where fans can catch live sets from artists featured on the album. With each act bringing its own voice to the lineup, the event promises a packed showcase of what’s new and next in the Brighton scene.

With Emerging Vol. 4, Small Pond continues to foster a vibrant community of rising artists, providing the support, resources, and platform that enable them to reach new listeners. For anyone looking to experience the latest from the South Coast’s alt-rock scene, “Hell Is an Ocean” is a perfect introduction.
