The Boy Detective drops debut album ‘Exhibition’, and holiday single “I Renounce Verdukianism!”

The Boy Detective has officially dropped their debut full-length album, Exhibition, marking a major milestone for the ska-punk band. Released on 8 November via Punkerton Records, the album is available on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms. Known for their high-energy performances and sharp wit, The Boy Detective is quickly carving a name for themselves in the ska-punk scene, blending brassy hooks with sharp lyrical observations.

Formed as a casual collaboration between friends Nic Good and Benny Capaul, The Boy Detective has grown into a full band that thrives on humour and an infectious live presence. Their music is infused with saxophone and trombone, creating a rich ska-punk sound that resonates with fans. Now signed to Punkerton Records, Exhibition delivers a raw yet polished representation of their musical journey.

Reflecting on the album, Benny Capaul, the band's vocalist, shared:

“The greatest ‘Exhibition’ that Southeastern Michigan has to offer. A visual and auditory exploration on Aging Seduction, Sentimental Parenting, Betrayed Relationships and Existentialism.”

Exhibition showcases the band’s knack for combining punchy ska-punk rhythms with introspective and relatable themes. Tracks on the album explore personal and societal struggles through a lens that balances levity and weight, with upstroke-laden guitars, spirited horn sections, and a vocal delivery that switches between biting sarcasm and heartfelt sincerity.

Alongside the album release, The Boy Detective released a festive twist with their holiday single, “I Renounce Verdukianism!”. Packed with cheeky humour and a tongue-in-cheek commentary on seasonal struggles, the track highlights the band’s playful side. The song blends their signature ska rhythms with lyrics that take a jab at the loneliness and quirks of the holiday season. As Benny Capaul puts it, the track is “decking the halls with subzero apartments and frostbitten appendages. Happy Holidays!”

Fans can experience Exhibition live as The Boy Detective hits the road for a record release tour. The band kicked things off on 7 November in Hamtramck, MI, and will continue with shows across the Midwest. Highlights include appearances with Five Iron Frenzy and Millington, as well as an exclusive in-store event at Used Kids Records in Columbus, OH, on 8 November.

With their unmistakable charm and knack for blending punchy ska rhythms with poignant themes, The Boy Detective’s Exhibition is shaping up to be a standout debut for the band.
