adults and Spank Hair team up for split EP ‘...in the big league’

South London's indie-pop quartet adults and Oxford's emo rockers Spank Hair have collaborated to release a split EP titled ...in the big league scheduled for digital release on 22 May by Fika Recordings.

Alongside the digital release the EP will also be available as a 20-page riso-printed zine, which includes a download code, blending music with tangible art in an engaging format. ...in the big league features four tracks that explore themes of love, anxiety, and the bittersweet nuances of self-reflection in the modern age. adults contribute “trouble” and “discipline” two jangly, indie-pop songs enriched with multi-tracking and lively recordings, capturing the energy and fun of their creative process. Their tracks, produced by Keith TOTP and Rich Mandell, showcase a polished pop sound infused with heartfelt introspection.

Spank Hair adds two songs that delve into the feelings of regret and the harsh realization of personal limits as they transition through their thirties. Their contributions, "Cowboy Scene" and "Many Phones Ago," reflect a maturation of their fast, loud, and tasteful emo rock sound, resonating with anyone who feels beaten by the relentless passage of time.

Both bands express excitement about collaborating, highlighting a mutual admiration that has deepened through previous gigs and shared musical journeys. The split EP not only marks a new creative phase for each band but also celebrates their friendship and collective musical evolution.

As adults continue to blend elements of punk, emo, and indie-pop, they remain a beacon of hope and noisy joy in the disintegrating world, driven by a desire to connect and care for their community. Spank Hair, initially formed with the intention to disband after their first show, has instead persisted, fuelled by their love for emo rock and the emotional depth of their music.

This unique release promises to be a significant addition to the discographies of both bands, offering fans a fresh look at their evolving sounds and thematic depths. Fans can look forward to experiencing the new tracks live as both bands have upcoming shows, with adults hosting a special EP release show at The Black Heart, Camden on 27 June.
