Irish alt/post rock duo Bicurious have shared their latest single, "Gutless," giving fans another taste of their upcoming album Your Life is Over Now..., set for release on 4 October via Big Scary Monsters.
"Gutless" sees the Dublin/Leipzig-based duo continue to explore new sonic territories, blending their signature instrumental approach with more prominent vocals. The song draws inspiration from bands like Biffy Clyro, Reuben, and Thrice, and forms part of an album that leans more heavily on lyrics than their earlier work. Despite this shift, the band’s blend of math-rock riffs and noisy breakdowns remains intact, making "Gutless" a powerful addition to their catalogue.
Speaking about the track, guitarist/vocalist Taran Plouzané shared:
“‘Gutless’ is written from the perspective of a baby who’s in hospital, hooked up to IVs and fighting for his life. Being a baby, he has no idea what’s going on, all he sees is people running around him in a panic.”
The music video for "Gutless" is a celebration of the band's loyal fanbase, many of whom helped crowdfund the album. Plouzané continued:
“For the music video, we contacted our followers through email and socials and asked them to provide us with some footage of themselves singing the song. We were overwhelmed by the response and we managed to put together a super fun video that we’re really proud of. It was a fully DIY project, created largely by our fans. A lot of the people who donated towards the fundraiser are in there, too. I guess it ties in to this idea of family that we’ve been emphasising through this album process!”
Your Life is Over Now... takes on the theme of family in various forms, including the connection the band shares with their fans. The album was crowdfunded, with over €9000 raised to help bring it to life. Bicurious, consisting of Taran Plouzané on guitar and vocals, and Gavin Purcell on drums, have spent the last seven years building a devoted following through relentless touring and their high-energy live shows.
To celebrate the release of Your Life is Over Now..., the band will be heading out on a UK and Ireland tour this autumn. Starting in Glasgow on 15th October, the duo will play shows across the UK before returning to Ireland for dates in Dublin, Cork, and Belfast in November.
With Your Life is Over Now... Bicurious continue to push their boundaries, both musically and thematically, while remaining connected to the people who have supported them along the way. If "Gutless" is anything to go by, their upcoming album promises to deliver more of the intense, heartfelt rock that has made them one of Ireland’s most exciting emerging acts.
