Ben Quad announce new EP ‘Ephemera’ and release single "Your Face as an Effigy"

Oklahoma’s Ben Quad have announced their highly anticipated new EP Ephemera, set for release on 25 October via Pure Noise Records.

Alongside the announcement, the band has released their latest single, "Your Face as an Effigy", offering a first taste of the EP’s heavier and more aggressive direction. The new track, featuring blast beats reminiscent of Deafheaven and early 2000s melodic vocals, arrives with an accompanying music video showcasing the band’s tight-knit camaraderie.

Speaking about the track, Ben Quad commented:

“Lyrically, this is the most open-ended on the EP. It’s about finding solidarity within the group you identify with and overcoming those who seek to ruin you.”

The song’s title hints at a political edge, reflecting a battle against a system that threatens to tear people apart.

Ephemera marks a sonic shift for Ben Quad, steering towards a more intense and aggressive sound than their 2022 release I'm Scared That's All There Is. Taking inspiration from bands like Pg. 99 and William Bonney, the EP delves into themes of societal decay, anger towards one's environment, and channelling that fury into action. The first single from the EP, "You’ll Get Nothing and Like It", was released last month, offering a blistering one minute and 52 seconds of emotional catharsis.

The EP was produced by CJ Cochran, a frequent collaborator of the band, and its recording process was broken up by the band’s touring schedule. This allowed Ben Quad time to reflect on their music, leading to a polished, dynamic collection of tracks that balance personal introspection with political commentary. The five-track EP showcases their evolving sound and solidifies their status as a rising force in the post-emo and indie-punk scenes.

Ephemera Track List:

  1. I Did Not Create the Rules

  2. You’ll Get Nothing and Like It

  3. Your Face as an Effigy

  4. Exit Wounds

  5. Ephemera

Fans can catch Ben Quad on tour this autumn, first supporting Prince Daddy & the Hyena, followed by dates on the Pure Noise Records Tour with Microwave, Prince Daddy & the Hyena, and Just Friends.
