Carly Cosgrove Announces new album ‘The Cleanest of Houses Are Empty’ set for June release

Philadelphia-based indie rock/emo trio Carly Cosgrove have officially announced their upcoming album The Cleanest of Houses Are Empty, scheduled for release on 14 June via Wax Bodega. The announcement comes alongside the debut of their latest single and music video, "You Old Dog."

Described by frontman Lucas Naylor as a track that delves into "the apparent futility of breaking a habit," the song captures the essence of personal struggle and the challenges of change. This new release promises to follow in the footsteps of the band's acclaimed 2021 debut See You In Chemistry, which navigated themes of personal growth amidst mental health challenges.

The Cleanest of Houses Are Empty confronts Naylor’s experiences with a personality disorder diagnosed in the summer of 2022, reflecting his journey through isolation and self-discovery. "This record details those thoughts...about habit, familiarity, unfamiliarity, depression, lethargy, and self-reflection," Naylor explains.

Recorded at Philadelphia’s iconic Studio 4 with producer Justin Bartlett, known for his work with acts like Bartees Strange and Movements, the album aims to capture the raw energy of Carly Cosgrove’s live performances. Drummer Tyler Kramer emphasizes their intention to deliver a "big, very live-sounding record," ensuring the band’s dynamic stage presence translates into their studio work.

Bassist Helen Barsz discusses the band's approach to this record, focusing on a balance between lyrical depth and musical complexity without being confined by their Midwest emo label. The album is a mix of heavy, poignant lyrical content supported by sophisticated musical arrangements, signaling a matured sound for the group.

Tracklist highlights from The Cleanest of Houses Are Empty include introspective songs like "Zoloft" and energetic tracks like "Random Dancing," showcasing the band's diverse range.

With a series of live performances already under their belt this year, including a sold-out tour and an upcoming slot at Excellency Festival on August 3, Carly Cosgrove is set to bring their new material to audiences eager for their unique blend of introspective lyrics and robust emo-infused rock.
