Sacramento punks Destroy Boys are building the hype for their forthcoming album Funeral Soundtrack #4 with the release of their latest single "Should’ve Been Me". The album is slated for release on 9 August via Hopeless Records, marking a significant evolution in the band's sound and storytelling.
"Should’ve Been Me" is a raw, intense track that encapsulates the fury and heartbreak of a serious breakup. Vocalist Violet Mayugba explains:
"When I found out my ex had been seeing someone else, I screamed like I had never screamed before, and that’s the voice you’re hearing. The video demonstrates my rage and fear for the future battling it out."
The song is a follow-up to their previous single "Boyfeel," which explores vocalist Alexia Roditis's relationship with gender nonconformity.
Funeral Soundtrack #4 is Destroy Boys' fourth album and features collaborations with Mannequin Pussy and Scowl, under the production of Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, The Linda Lindas, Best Coast). The album captures the band's most evolved sound yet, blending their punk rock roots with eclectic influences like salsa, bossa nova, and goth-inspired sounds from The Smiths and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Guitarist Violet Mayugba shares:
"Looking back, our first three albums marked the deaths of things. They were soundtracks to our funerals, whether they were for our ages or our mental states. We’ve gone through a lot of changes as a band and as people."
