Happy Accidents share new banger "Blink" ahead of new album ‘Edit Undo’

Two of the loveliest people out there the Indie-punk duo Happy Accidents have dropped their new single "Blink". The single is the latest track from their highly anticipated fifth album Edit Undo, set for release on 27 September via Alcopop! Records. The single follows earlier releases from the album, "Infinite Possibilities" and "Dog Day."

"Blink" explores the unspoken moments between conversations, where meaning is often found in silence. Guitarist Rich Mandell describes the track as focusing on how words can sometimes complicate or obscure what we really want to convey. The duo filmed and directed the music video themselves during a trip to the unique landscape of Dungeness, which Mandell called a “gorgeous setting that felt like a desert.”

Commenting on the single, guitarist Rich Mandell said:

“Blink centres around the moments in between sentences, the hidden meanings, the unspoken. Communicating the most through not speaking at all. Sometimes, words get in the way of what you actually want to say. The verses are full of contradictions - the webs that you can tie yourself up in with words. But sometimes when you say less, it all makes sense.”

Expanding on the video Madell stated:

“Pheebs and I went on a day trip to Dungeness, which I didn't know anything about, but when we got there I was amazed by this gorgeous setting that felt like a desert. And then we decided to film something!”

As part of the album’s rollout, Happy Accidents have embraced a highly creative release strategy. They've built a secret artist profile on streaming platforms, allowing fans to explore hidden content and experience Edit Undo in an entirely new way. This approach reflects the band's ongoing experimentation with how music is consumed in the digital age, questioning the role of scarcity and value in modern releases.

Talking about the rollout the band said:

“Doing a release this way has had its challenges,” they say of the new album, “but overall it's been such a fun way to add different dimensions to releasing a record. We're grateful to everyone who took part!”

Fans can expect Edit Undo to maintain the band’s signature DIY ethos, which has earned them recognition from key voices in the music world. Over the years, Happy Accidents have continued to grow and evolve, making their return in 2024 a significant moment for both the band and their listeners.

This release marks a return to form for Happy Accidents, who recently played their first live show in five years at Paper Dress Vintage in London. The band’s DIY approach and thought-provoking themes continue to resonate with fans, as they experiment with unconventional release strategies. For Edit Undo, the band created a secret world on streaming platforms, offering fans an immersive experience.

Since their 2016 debut You Might Be Right, Happy Accidents have been mainstays of the UK’s underground music scene, praised for their integrity and consistent output. Their latest record promises to build on this legacy, with ten tracks that blend their signature upbeat indie-punk sound with introspective themes.
