Kaonashi announce new EP 'A Second Chance at Forever: The Brilliant Lies from Casey Diamond'

Philadelphia-based experimental post-hardcore band Kaonashi has announced the release of their new five-song EP, A Second Chance at Forever: The Brilliant Lies from Casey Diamond. The EP will be available via Equal Vision Records on 26 July.

In conjunction with this announcement, the band has also shared the music video for their latest single, "Passing Through the Hourglass".

Kaonashi, comprised of Peter Rono (vocals), Pao (drums), Ryne Jones (bass), and Alex Hallquist (guitar/vocals), continues to push the boundaries of post-hardcore with their latest project. A Second Chance at Forever: The Brilliant Lies from Casey Diamond is the next instalment in their ongoing narrative that follows the life and times of Jamie, an androgynous protagonist navigating the complexities of high school romance and personal tragedy.

Track Listing:

  1. Blood Red Camry Dance Party

  2. C.A.S.E.Y

  3. Passing Through The Hourglass

  4. Straycations

  5. Exit Pt. VI (The Guilt In The Rearview)

In support of their new EP, Kaonashi will be hitting the road this summer with a series of U.S. appearances alongside Boundaries, followed by UK dates with The Fall of Troy and Hail The Sun, and European headline shows and festival appearances.

Peter Rono explains the band's unique approach to storytelling:

"These songs make up a fictional story but it’s rooted in our personal experiences. We are starting from the ending and moving to the beginning. On the 2021 LP Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year, it’s about Jamie and the tragedy that happens on graduation day. The last release, The 3 Faces of Beauty: A Violent Misinterpretation Of Morgan Montgomery, is about Morgan and their junior year. This album is about Casey and reveals more about how we ended up at this tragedy."

Kaonashi's music is not just a narrative journey; it's an emotional and cathartic experience for both the band and their listeners. "There’s a lot of unfortunate stories to get inspiration from, and this really is a tragedy, but it’s therapy for me getting it out in these songs," Rono continues.

From the infectious hooks of "Blood Red Camry Dance Party" to the post-hardcore inventiveness of "Straycations," Kaonashi's new EP showcases their technical prowess and emotional depth. The closing track, "Exit Pt. VI (The Guilt in the Rearview)," stands out as a mid-tempo meditation with a cliffhanger ending inspired by Death Cab For Cutie’s Plans. "That’s definitely one of the heaviest songs we’ve ever written in terms of emotion and feeling," says drummer Pao.

Whether you’re a fan of metal, hardcore, punk, post-hardcore, or pop music, A Second Chance at Forever: The Brilliant Lies from Casey Diamond offers something for everyone, blending multiple genres into a cohesive and compelling sound. "We had to take the long route and be misunderstood and overlooked for a long time," Rono summarizes. "It took ten years of no one caring or just being an underdog to get where we are now. But now with this release, it’s starting to be understood and starting to work out."
