Peter Bibby releases new album 'Drama King' and shares video for "Bin Boy"

Australian working-class wordsmith Peter Bibby has released his fourth album, Drama King, on Spinning Top Records.

Produced by Dan Luscombe, known for his work with Tropical Fuck Storm, Amyl and the Sniffers, and The Drones, Drama King provides an unfiltered glimpse into Bibby’s world, capturing the chaos of late-night pub scenes and moments of personal reflection. The album opens with "The Arsehole," featuring candid lyrics and a wobbly, riff-driven sound, setting the tone for a collection of tracks that showcase Bibby's evolution as a songwriter and storyteller.

Drama King isn't just a personal journey for Bibby; it’s also a reflection of his musical roots. Introduced to live music through Perth's punk scene, Bibby brings a gritty authenticity to his work. This authenticity has earned him a reputation as a working-class hero and fiercely independent artist.

Peter Bibby, celebrated as inherently working-class and wholeheartedly independent, cut his teeth in Perth’s underground rock scene. His affable personality and energetic live performances have taken him on tours across the U.S. with Pond and to international festivals like Laneway, Falls, All Points East, South by Southwest, and South Africa’s Rocking the Daisies.

Accompanying the album release, Bibby has shared the music video for the track "Bin Boy," directed by Robin Bottrell. The song offers a unique, humorous, and touching perspective on the relationship between humans and their waste, told from the viewpoint of an anthropomorphic bin.

Talking about the track Bibby said:

"Could this be the world’s first song written from the perspective of a wheelie bin? I think it might be. The song marks a clear connection between man and bin, how we are not so different after all. I went full guitar hero on the solo and was very pleased when Carla’s backing vocals lifted the song to a whole other level. I don’t think it was that easy for her to harmonize with my derelict vocal style, but she nailed it."

The Peter Bibby Drama King Australian tour is in full swing, with Bibby and his Big Horse Band recently completing a 4-night residency at the Buffalo Club in Fremantle. Each night featured different Aussie talent, including Dennis Cometti, Chris Davis and the Scrambled Eggs, Royston Vasie, and Love Shovel. Bibby also performed solo at Perth's Astor Theatre as the main support for The Mary Wallopers. The tour will continue on the East Coast of Australia starting in Brisbane on June 20, with shows in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide.
