Kid Bookie drops new track "Love Me When You're Angry"

Kid Bookie has dropped his latest single, "Love Me When You're Angry," a track from his much-anticipated album Songs For The Living // Songs For The Dead, set to release on 13 September via Marshall Records.

In conjunction with the new release, Kid Bookie has announced a series of intimate UK in-store events. The new single, "Love Me When You're Angry," showcases Bookie’s versatility and emotional depth. It explores the desire for meaningful, lasting connections in a world where everything often feels fleeting.

Talking about the new single Bookie said:

“In this generation where everything's such a microwavable moment - it has 2 minutes, it's hot, and then you take it out, and it's just done. This song is asking to give a little bit of hope, a little bit of something to hold on to. It’s about how our heart changes for a person and how we learn to adapt to each change and the shape of their heart.”

Songs For The Living // Songs For The Dead features eleven tracks created with various collaborators, including Good Charlotte’s Billy Martin and Skindred’s Mikey Demus, and producers like Tom Mitchener (Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes) and Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon, Nova Twins). This collaboration has resulted in a bold evolution of Kid Bookie’s sound, blending multiple genres into something uniquely his own.

Bookie defies stereotypes, embracing his love for rock, metal, and rap, challenging conventional expectations of Black culture in the UK. His music candidly reflects his experiences growing up in London, seeking acceptance, and navigating the complexities of life. Despite the pressures to conform, Bookie remains committed to authenticity and self-expression.

Songs For The Living // Songs For The Dead stands out as a testament to Bookie's resilience and individuality. The album delves into personal heartbreak, self-loathing, and obsessions with death, but also celebrates resilience, triumph, and defiance. “A lot of this album is about feeling inadequate,” admits Bookie. “There are different facets and layers of that inadequacy, and it covers most of my inadequate parts, whether that’s my art or feeling inadequate in terms of love.”

Through his vulnerability and insecurity, Bookie has created his most self-assured record to date. He approaches his work with a transgressive and authentic mindset, aiming to be a disruptor in the music industry. “I approach everything I do with the idea that it’s a game,” he says. “So, how do I become a glitch in that game? Sometimes you have to throw a grenade in places, blow it up and rebuild the infrastructure. I only have one chance to revel here, so let me be as transgressive, as raw, and as authentic as I can be.”

Kid Bookie has also been shortlisted for The Heavy Music Awards’ Best Breakthrough Live Artist in 2024 and will perform at this year’s 2000trees Festival
