MILLY announce sophomore album ‘Your Own Becoming’
MILLY, the band drawing comparisons to iconic acts like Hum and Catherine, have announced their highly anticipated new album, Your Own Becoming out 28 June via Dangerbird Records.
Accompanying the album announcement is the release of the lead single and video, "Drip From The Fountain," a track that showcases the band's evolution and sonic prowess.
"Drip From The Fountain" is described as the most infectious song in MILLY's repertoire, featuring an explosive chorus and melodic hooks reminiscent of early Death Cab For Cutie. The track, produced by Sonny DiPerri (known for his work with NIN, Narrow Head, and My Bloody Valentine), sets the tone for the upcoming album.
Brendan Dyer, MILLY's principal songwriter and vocalist, reflects on the inspiration behind "Drip From The Fountain:
“This was the final song we wrote for the record. I'm trying to just soak in being a person and enjoying my time and especially observing as much stuff as I can. The dark especially. 'Time is running out but this moment feels nice' is truly where my head was at.”
The album, Your Own Becoming, marks a significant milestone for MILLY, driven by a period of personal introspection and growth. Dyer's daily walks, aimed at processing emotions and confronting existential thoughts, laid the foundation for the album's thematic depth. Despite grappling with anxiety and existential dread, Dyer found solace in the creative process and the camaraderie of his bandmates.
Originally conceived as a solo project, MILLY embraced a collaborative approach for Your Own Becoming. Joined by bassist Yarden Erez, drummer Connor Frankel, and new guitarist Nico Moreta, the band embarked on a journey of musical reinvention. The album, recorded at East West Studios and Dangerbird's Recording Studio in Los Angeles, captures the band's evolution and sonic maturity.
With towering guitar riffs, inviting hooks, and a newfound collaborative spirit, Your Own Becoming stands as a testament to the transformative power of art. Across 10 compelling tracks, MILLY channels existential angst into cathartic and galvanizing music.
In addition to the album release, MILLY will join Narrow Head on a series of West Coast dates, following a successful tour with alt-rock quartet Rocket. The band's album announcement will be celebrated with a special event at Permanent Records in Los Angeles on April 5th.
