CHERYM take a stand against gender inequality with new single 'Alpha Beta Sigma'

Derry-based pop punk duo, CHERYM, are making a powerful statement with their latest single, "Alpha Beta Sigma". The track serves as the opening anthem from their much-anticipated debut album, Take It Or Leave It, scheduled for release on 16 February, via Alcopop! Records.

The single address the pervasive issue of gender inequality and violence against women in Irish culture. Drummer Alannagh Doherty explains the motivation behind the song, stating:

"We are amidst an ongoing epidemic here in Ireland. '"Alpha Beta Sigma"' is about how gender inequality permeates every single aspect of our society. It is about the threat that men and patriarchy pose to women in this country. It is about the reclamation of our autonomy and our rights. It's about freedom from fear and freedom to physical integrity, and overall it's about having the freedom to just BE a woman."

CHERYM’s debut album, Take It Or Leave It, is more than just a collection of pop-punk hooks and melodies. It's a bold and lucidly political testament, addressing topics like abortion rights, the fall of the church, and LGBTQ+ experiences. Recorded in 2023 with producer George Perks at Vada Studios in Alcester, the album represents the band's most honest and unfiltered work to date.

CHERYM are also set to embark on a series of headline tours, including UK and Netherlands dates in February and March 2024. They will also join Enter Shikari on their Irish tour in March 2024. The duo's impactful live performances have earned them a spot supporting '"Teenage Kicks"' legends, The Undertones, on their autumn 2024 German tour.
