Gürl unleash chaotic, sugary anti-pop with “Boys In The 90s”

Bristol-based sensation Gürl are turning back the clock with their latest single and video, "Boys In The 90s," a tongue-in-cheek homage to the pop-punk era of the MTV heydays. Described as "Billie Eilish meets Bring Me The Horizon," Gürl brings a chaotic, sugary blend of anti-pop that's as catchy as it is rebellious.

The single, produced by Rhys May (Bring Me The Horizon, Enter Shikari), encapsulates the essence of Gürl's pop-infused sound while adding layers and ingredients that make it uniquely theirs.

Vocalist and lyricist Josh Dalton shares the inspiration behind the track, stating:

It's about growing up poor, on a council estate, going to a special measures school, and getting beaten up by kids that think you're ugly... but then coming home and watching these 90s movies where men aren't portrayed as typically masculine or handsome, but instead androgynous and beautiful. Seeing that and thinking, why can't I look like that? It's about insecurity, rage, and reverence to 90s icons.

“Boys In The 90s" is a playful throwback to the pop-punk era, reminiscent of MTV's golden age. The accompanying video is a meta-ode to 90s icons, breaking the fourth wall on the film set to pay homage to Lara Croft, Kurt Cobain, Scream, and more. Gürl delivers a glam, nu-punk, unhinged performance, showcasing their love for the 90s in both music and visuals.
