Soot Sprite and Muttering collaborate on new single "Burn The Leaves"

Indie shoegaze band Soot Sprite and emo trio Muttering have joined forces for their new single "Burn The Leaves". This track marks the first glimpse into their upcoming collaborative EP For Joy, which will be available as a digital-only release on 6 September via Specialist Subject Records.

Recorded in April at The Bookhouse Studio in Bermondsey with producer Tom Hill, who also plays guitar for Muttering, the single showcases the talents of all seven members from both bands. The collaboration brings together the distinctive sounds of Soot Sprite and Muttering, creating a powerful blend that allows each musician to shine.

Muttering's Chaz Bush, who penned the lyrics for "Burn The Leaves," was inspired by the novel A Month in the Country. The song reflects on the fleeting nature of happiness and the significance of memories that anchor us during difficult times.

Bush explains:

“I was reading ‘a month in the country’ which is a short story that portrays one man’s summer in a new town. He looks back at this time with such fondness but is accepting that it could never last. We all have certain anchor points that you look back on. Memories that hold significance and in difficult times often hope to rekindle. The thought of what could have been. ‘If I’d stayed would I always have been happy’... Recognising who we are and the experiences that made us is why we tell stories. Knowing that we can live with change and grow from it. Accepting the moment is now.”

To celebrate the release, Soot Sprite and Muttering will be performing three joint shows in September, where they will debut tracks from For Joy alongside individual sets. The shows will take place on September 14th at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton, September 15th at Moor Beer Brewery in Bristol, and September 21st at Two Palms in Hackney, London.
