The Pleasure Dome share new single "Your Fucking Smile"

The Pleasure Dome set the scene for their forthcoming EP Liminal Space scheduled for release on 10 May, via Hound Gawd! Records, with the release of their latest single "Your Fucking Smile".

Having received previous acclaim for their debut album Equinox and the recent single "The Duke Part II Friends & Enemies", The Pleasure Dome is set to captivate audiences once again with Liminal Space. "Your Fucking Smile" serves as a raw and intense introduction to this new body of work, echoing the band's unmistakable blend of punk energy and emotive storytelling.

Embracing themes of love, loss, and the complexities of human emotion, The Pleasure Dome delivers a visceral listening experience that resonates deeply with audiences. From the searing vocals to the driving rhythms, "Your Fucking Smile" showcases the band's unparalleled talent and uncompromising vision.

Talking about the single vocalist Bobby Spender said:

“After the album, I wanted to make something that was really melodic, which became the first single The Duke. I then realised wanted to see info could go heavier than the album, which is what Your Fucking Smile became. I was really into Bernard Herrmann, who composed the score to the film, Psycho, the murder scene in particular. It uses tritones, the devil's intonation, very dissonant sounding – so that with 210bpm I was set.

The lyrics come from a poem about someone I dated who has the best smile you ever saw, but she had a lot of insecurities and drove the relationship into the ground, so I had to walk away. Some people make you feel terrible about yourself when all you want is to share love.

It seems like these things quickly become about sex and having your confidence shattered because you're not deserving. As I say in the chorus, yeah right”

A testament to resilience and creativity in the face of adversity, Liminal Space encapsulates a tumultuous period in the band's journey. Following a successful tour and the release of their debut album, The Pleasure Dome encountered significant challenges, including the departure of key band members and personal upheavals for Spender. Yet, from this crucible of chaos emerged a collection of songs that embody the band's emotional depth and musical evolution.

"The songs on the EP felt like they belonged together. It didn't feel right to save them for our next album," reflects Spender. With a revamped lineup featuring Loz Fancourt on bass and backing vocals, and Harry Flowers on drums, The Pleasure Dome entered the studio in January 2024 to bring their vision to life. Produced by James Trevascus, known for his work with acclaimed acts like Nick Cave & Warren Ellis and Billy Nomates, Liminal Space promises to be the band's most compelling project yet.

Accompanying the release of "Your Fucking Smile" is a visually captivating music video, featuring an eclectic mix of found footage that perfectly complements the song's energy. Frontman Bobby Spender describes it as "an edit of found footage, comprising of a documentary on UK goths in 1984, a Soviet propaganda cartoon, an American instructional video on how to date from the 1950s, and a burlesque dancer."
