COLD GAWD drops “Gorgeous” ahead of new album release

Southern California's own COLD GAWD are gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated second album, I’ll Drown On This Earth, set to debut on 30 August via Dais Records.

The album promises to deliver a sonic journey that merges shoegaze with introspective lyricism, showcasing the band's evolution since their breakout LP in 2022.

The album's latest single, "Gorgeous," sets the stage with a defiant scream that immediately captures the listener's attention. According to Matthew Wainwright, the band's lead vocalist and songwriter, "Gorgeous" continues where their previous album left off, delving into themes of personal struggle and the quest for redemption. Wainwright describes the song as a reflection on trying to escape one's troubles, only to realize they persist regardless of one's surroundings.

Recorded at Paradise Recorders in Anaheim, CA, under the guidance of Colin Knight (from Object of Affection), I’ll Drown On This Earth showcases COLD GAWD's refined sound. The album was meticulously crafted over several sessions, allowing the band to hone their signature blend of distortion, dream pop, and raw emotion. Cameron Fonacier's drumming complements Wainwright's haunting vocals and the band's atmospheric guitar work, creating a soundscape that oscillates between melancholy and euphoria.

Drawing inspiration from diverse influences ranging from shoegaze pioneers like My Bloody Valentine to modern icons like Beach House, COLD GAWD's music is as introspective as it is expansive. I’ll Drown On This Earth promises to be a bold statement from a band unafraid to push the boundaries of their genre.
