Defences announce new album ‘Shadowlight’

Future alternative metal greats, Defences, have announced their new album Shadowlight, set for release on 8 November via Long Branch Records. In celebration of this announcement, the band has also shared their powerful new single and music video, "Perish".

Defences have built a robust following, with millions of streams across their catalogue, several U.K. tours featuring multiple sold-out headline shows, and numerous festival appearances including Download, Takedown, Turbulence, and Burn It Down. The Hertfordshire-based band now presents their label debut for Long Branch Records with Shadowlight.

"Perish" is a song that delves deep into the themes of facing reality and accepting oneself the band explains:

"'Perish' is about facing up to reality. To appreciate life for what it is, rather than what you wish it was. It’s a promise to yourself to lay in the bed you made and to acknowledge every part of yourself. To light a match and let the Shadow Work begin."

The forthcoming album Shadowlight explores themes of solitude and self-reflection with the band sharing:

"Shadowlight stems from a period of solitude and deep reflection, as we explore what it means to accept your inner darkness," the band continues. "Acknowledging, understanding, and ultimately accepting it for what it is, learning how to sit with it or use it to change your outlook. The album sees all sides of this, tying in the parallel of the artistic process itself and what it is to create. To open yourself up to the possibility that you may not achieve what you believe in your core to be something you deserve, that you may not reach your potential. This cycle of disappointment and self-sabotage is commonplace, with nothing left but to chase a sense of absolution and validation forever out of reach."
