Jakobs Castle universe expands with new single "Supervillain”

Jakob Nowell is expanding the Jakobs Castle universe with his latest single, "Supervillain", which serves as the final preview of his upcoming debut album, ENTER: THE CASTLE scheduled for release on 12 April via Epitaph Records.

Co-written by Nowell and Tim Armstrong (of Rancid and Op Ivy fame), "Supervillain" presents a playful pop twist infused with a rocksteady, laid-back groove. Demonstrating Nowell's knack for blending 90s nostalgia with internet subcultures and futuristic hyperpop, the track offers a fresh and unique musical experience. Nowell himself describes the song as featuring inventive and playful lyrics, with tongue-in-cheek references to pop culture and comic book imagery, all wrapped up in the theme of a parasocial fanatic personified as a supervillain.

As the only child of the late Bradley Nowell, frontman of the influential band Sublime, Jakob’s journey to this point has been marked by challenges and personal growth. Despite the adversity of losing his father as a baby and navigating an unstable upbringing, Nowell found solace and community through art and the exploration of internet subcultures. His solo project, Jakobs Castle, represents a culmination of these experiences, offering listeners a glimpse into his unique perspective and musical evolution.

Talking about his Jackobs Castle project Nowell said:

“Jakobs Castle is my way of sending out my own weak single into the void. If even one person understands the references and feels a connection, my work is complete”

With ENTER: THE CASTLE, Nowell aims to deliver music that is both catchy and weird, accessible yet distinctive. The album has already garnered critical acclaim since the release of singles like "Time Traveler" and "Catch Me”. Drawing inspiration from punk rock, emo-rap, ska-punk, and hyperpop, Nowell showcases his versatility as an artist, crafting an album that defies genre boundaries and expectations.

In addition to his solo endeavors, Nowell is currently on the road for a 40-date US tour with G. Love & Special Sauce. Moreover, news of his upcoming performance as the frontman of Sublime at Coachella Music Festival has generated significant buzz within the music community. Beyond his musical pursuits, Nowell is also making a positive impact as a board member of The Nowell Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to offering addiction recovery services to the music community. With his debut album on the horizon and a busy touring schedule ahead, Jakob Nowell is poised to leave an indelible mark on the music world.
