Slow Joy announces new EP ‘Mi Amigo Slow Joy’

One of our absolute favs, the southwest emo superstar Slow Joy, has announced a new studio EP titled Mi Amigo Slow Joy, scheduled for release on 7 June via Mick Music.

Slow Joy, the solo project of talented Dallas-based Chicano artist Esteban Flores, has steadily gained momentum since his 2020 debut with early singles "Crawling" and "Soft Slam" accumulating millions of views on TikTok and earning impressive playlist placements. Despite initial uncertainty about re-pursuing a music career, Flores's passion, talent and honesty have propelled him forward, culminating now in the upcoming release of Mi Amigo Slow Joy.

Teaming up with renowned producer Mike Sapone - known for his work with acts like Oso Oso, The Front Bottoms, and Sincere Engineer - Slow Joy crafted this EP at New Jersey’s Barbershop Studios.

Talking about his time working with Sapone, Flores said:

“I'm such a creature of habit when it comes to creative things, that I'll just keep reproducing the same thing in the same room. It was good to be in a different spot entirely. I had never gotten to a place where I had the time to experiment—or felt safe to experiment—in a nice studio. This time, it felt really open.”

Flores credits Sapone for creating an encouraging environment that allowed him to experiment and refine his songwriting, resulting in "Pulling Teeth" – the EP’s first single and music video featuring a dynamic blend of Foo Fighters-meets-Pixies with towering choruses.

A heartfelt track serving as both an apology and a declaration of gratitude from Flores to his wife. Flores explains:

“It’s basically an apology to my wife for me not being the easiest person to deal with all the time. It’s one of those songs where it's like, ‘Please don't give up on me; I know I'm taking a little bit.’”

Mi Amigo Slow Joy promises to be a poignant continuation of Slow Joy's musical journey, reflecting Flores' heartfelt expression with crisper arrangements and even deeper emotional resonance.
