Brighton's Orchards return with new single "I Feel Terrible"

Brighton indie/math rock trio Orchards have made a striking comeback with their latest single "I Feel Terrible," out now through Big Scary Monsters.

The band, known for their vibrant blend of indie pop and intricate math rock, have shared a track that marks a distinct evolution in their sound, encapsulating the emotional turmoil of a breakup with anthemic flair.

Produced by Jack Wilson of Fickle Friends, "I Feel Terrible" represents a significant departure from the feelings of stagnation that previously plagued the band. According to bassist Dan Fane, the song was birthed during a period of creative lethargy, injecting new vitality into the group. The release is accompanied by a visually engaging music video directed by Three Bros Media, highlighting the dynamic and emotive performance of the band.

Vocalist Lucy Evers delivers a powerful performance, channeling both catharsis and the quest for freedom. The track weaves complex guitar melodies with poignant vocal harmonies, showcasing the seamless chemistry between Evers, Fane, and guitarist Sam Rushton.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind "I Feel Terrible," Evers shares:

"This record emerged from the breakdown of significant relationships, both platonic and romantic. It’s about the struggle between staying in a painful situation because of commitment and the need to liberate oneself for personal well-being. Writing this song allowed me to release those conflicted feelings."

Orchards, who first caught the public’s attention with their debut album Lovecore in March 2020, experienced a forced hiatus due to the global pandemic shortly after their initial breakthrough. Despite this setback, they continued to create music, resulting in the Trust Issues EP, which took a darker, more introspective lyrical direction.

Now, with "I Feel Terrible," Orchards are not only revisiting the themes that have resonated with their fans but are also exploring new emotional depths. The band plans to showcase their new material alongside fan favourites at upcoming performances at Portals Festival, Truck Festival, and ArcTanGent this summer.
