PLUTOCRACY PLANET and Carson Pace (The Callous Daoboys) release “Commence Mutation”

Experimental electro-metal collective PLUTOCRACY PLANET has released their new single "Commence Mutation," featuring Carson Pace of The Callous Daoboys. This progressive track, infused with saxophone and violin, explores themes of The Singularity and post-human existence.

PLUTOCRACY PLANET emerged from the pandemic shutdown, driven by the world's societal ills. Led by former Alarm Magazine editor and musical maverick Scott Morrow, the project brings together an eclectic mix of more than two dozen renowned vocalists and instrumentalists from the realms of hardcore, hip-hop, emo, avant-garde composition, and pop. The collective's innovative sound fuses post-hardcore sensibilities with electronics, polyrhythms, and an extensive instrumental palette that includes strings, saxophone, piano, harp, marimba, and acoustic guitar.

"Commence Mutation" is a sax- and violin-infused electro-metal rumination on The Singularity and post-human existence. This thrilling track features an all-star lineup of instrumentalists: Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Azusa), Jonathan Hischke (The Sound of Animals Fighting, Cigar), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Masonic Wave), Jason Schimmel (Estradasphere, Secret Chiefs 3, Red Fiction), and Anton Patzner (Emily Jane White, Judgement Day). Vocalist Carson Pace delivers a powerful performance that complements the track's complex and dynamic soundscape.

The collective's upcoming self-titled debut LP, set for release on 12 July 12, promises to be a landmark album. It features contributions from members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, American Football, Protest the Hero, Braid, The Get-Up Kids, Far, The Sound of Animals Fighting, Secret Chiefs 3, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Yakuza, and Solillaquists of Sound. Each track on the album addresses pressing sociopolitical issues such as greed, inequality, the influence of money in politics, and more.

Scott Morrow, reflecting on the inspiration behind "Commence Mutation," says:

“It’s easy to get caught up in alarmism about artificial intelligence—we’ve all been raised on countless sci-fi movies and novels about humanity’s demise at the hands of its own tools. But it seems that more and more experts believe that some sort of technological singularity, whether an artificial superintelligence or human intelligence amplification from nanotechnologies, is not a matter of if but when."

Morrow continues:

"Personally, I find it fascinating to think about AI and AGI (advanced general intelligence) in the context of the universe and other advanced alien civilizations. Is AI a ‘Great Filter’ that nothing can survive? Is it why we haven’t made contact with anything else out there? Or is it possible not only to survive the development of AGI but actually thrive and become ‘post-human’? I tend to think that we’ll accidentally wipe ourselves out, but you never know!”

"Commence Mutation" follows the project's previous singles, "This Very Severity" featuring Bob Nanna (Braid, Hey Mercedes), "But You Said" featuring Jonah Matranga (Far, Gratitude, onelinedrawing), and "A Simple Refrain" featuring Matt Pryor (The Get-Up Kids) and Swamburger (Solillaquists of Sound). Each release has built anticipation for the collective's debut album, which promises to be a bold and thought-provoking exploration of contemporary issues through a unique and genre-defying musical lens.
