Sløtface share new single "I Used To Be A Real Piece Of Shit" ahead of upcoming album

Norwegian pop-punk band Sløtface have just dropped the final teaser from their highly anticipated third album Film Buff, set to be released on 27 September via Propeller Recordings. The new single, "I Used To Be A Real Piece Of Shit," is available now to stream and gives fans a taste of the quirky, cultural chaos that defines this album.

Inspired by a wild blend of influences, including Craig David, the character Indiana Jones, and the sketch show I Think You Should Leave, the track brings together an eclectic mix of cultural references. Frontwoman Haley Shea explains the backstory:

"I was completely obsessed with Tim Robinson's show I Think You Should Leave last summer and watched all the seasons about four times, laughing hysterically. The sketch where he says 'I used to be a piece of shit' stuck with me, and I knew it would make a great lyric."

Haley also highlights the song's deeper meaning:

"It’s a song for everyone who used to be a piece of shit, who’s working on it, who’s still kind of a piece of shit in some ways, and that’s ok!”

Playful, silly, and thought-provoking, the track asks whether we ever really change, even as we strive to better ourselves.

"I Used To Be A Real Piece Of Shit" was co-written by Shea, Swedish songwriter/producer Daniel Hedberg, and Simen Følstad Nilsen. Production was handled by Hedberg and Preben Sælid Andersen, who collaborated closely with Shea on the album.

Film Buff will be Sløtface's third studio album, drawing inspiration from cinema and described by Haley as feeling "like putting on an action movie on a Friday night, falling asleep in front of the TV, and being thrown between dreams, fiction, and reality." The album will take listeners through a journey that blends the magic of film with introspective lyrics and powerful alt-rock sounds.
